چکیده

There are other factors which might be studied in relation to the beneficial effect of excess thiazole in the presence of limiting amounts of thiamin or molecularly equivalent quantities of its intermediates. However, it appears clear that the thiazole effect exists under many variations of the conditions under which Phycomyces might be grown in laboratory practice. This is important in the use of the organism in bio-assay because in the presence of excess thiazole dry weights greater by 50 per cent or more are obtained than would be expected on the basis of the amount of thiamin present.

Genes in S and T Subgenomes Are Responsible for Hybrid Lethality in Interspecific Hybrids between Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana occidentalis

BACKGROUND Many species of Nicotiana section Suaveolentes produce inviable F(1) hybrids after crossing with Nicotiana tabacum (genome constitution SSTT), a phenomenon that is often called hybrid lethality. Through crosses with monosomic lines of N. tabacum lacking a Q chromosome, we previously determined that hybrid lethality is caused by interaction between gene(s) on the Q chromosome belongin...

Association mapping for resistance to powdery mildew in oriental tobacco (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) germplasm

Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe cichoracearum is an important fungal disease which threatens tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) production. The objective of this study was to determine DNA markers linked to genomic regions associated with resistance to powdery mildew in tobacco through the association mapping approach. Seventy tobacco geno-types were fingerprinted using 26 simple se-quence repeat...

Regeneration of Glyphosate-Tolerant Nicotiana tabacum after Plastid Transformation with a Mutated Variant of Bacterial aroA gene

Presence of antibiotic resistance markers has always been considered as one of the main safety concerns in transgenic plants and their derived products. Elimination of antibiotic selectable markers from transgenics is a major hurdle for finding efficient and safe candidates. Herbicide tolerance genes might be attractive alternatives. In this study, a variant form of the 5-enoylpyruvyl shikimate...

Biotechnological Reduction of Tobacco (Nicotiana Tabacum L.) Toxicity

BACKGROUND: Nicotiana tobacco contains large amounts of alkaloid nicotine. Tobacco plant is used for smoking and causes many health problems since it is high in nicotine which is one of the widely-recognized toxic compounds with serious side effects for different body organs. Reducing nicotine content of this plant is a way to reduce its health hazards in cigarette smokers. Utilizing the new ...

Identification of the Chromosome Carrying the Factor for Resistance to Meloidogyne incognita in Tobacco.

To identify the chromosome carrying the factor for resistance to Meloidogyne incognita in tobacco, crosses were made between resistant tobacco 'NC95' as pollen parent and each of the 12 tobacco monosomics (A-L) representative of the Tomentosae half of the Nicotiana tabacum chromosome complement. Of the F seedlings, 927 plants were grown for observation. From these, 223 plants were selected as p...
